Instead Of A Tip, This Teen Waitress Got THIS Instead, And It’s HORRIBLE

Most people who have never waited tables have absolutely no idea how hard most servers work. Some might make it look like an easy job, but it’s not. What’s more, is their hourly wage is very low (sometimes not even enough to cover their taxes), so essentially all of their income comes from tips. You see, there is a different federal minimum wage for employees who earn tips, and 17 states in the U.S. don’t require restaurant owners to pay tipped employees any more than the $2.13/hour “federal tipped minimum wage”.

With all of that said, as if servers don’t have it hard enough, this teen waitress from Harrisonburg, Virginia received one of the WORST things that anyone could ever get in place of a tip. You won’t believe what she found on her receipt!

18 year old Sadie Elledge works as a waitress at Jess’ Lunch.

She recently waited on customers who ordered 2 gyros, a salad, and drinks.

Despite the fact that Elledge gave the customers what she describes as decent service, when it was time to pay the bill, Ada M. Doriot left an evil, hardcore racist note instead of a tip.

Though she’s of Mexican and Honduran heritage, Elledge is already a U.S. citizen.

She said she’s used to racist comments like this, so she didn’t make a big deal out of it. At school, someone once told her to “Go make me a burrito.”

The restaurant investigated the incident and banned the customer from dining at their place.

At one point, the customers returned to the restaurant and yelled at the manager because they were enraged that Elledge’s grandfather posted the receipt online and upset about the backlash over it. The manager asked why they were taking this up with him instead of Elledge’s grandfather, a prominent local attorney (who, incidentally, is caucasian). The grandfather heard the customers were there, and he, being furious about the whole incident, rushed to Jess’ Lunch to confront them. Apparently the gist of that confrontation is that the grandfather basically told the customers that they deserve the backlash and that he wasn’t apologizing. We completely agree, and good for him for standing up to the racist bullies.

When interviewed by a local news station about the racist customers, Sadie took the high road:

It’s sad how incredibly racist some people are. It’s unbelievable how often people discriminate against others based on how they look, the color of their skin, their accent, and more. Unfortunately, as Sadie and many others know all too well, although we live in a modern world, there are many people who think in a very narrow and antiquated way, and entire segments of society are often very unaccepting.
