This is really the definition of staying ahead of the curve. The Birmingham Zoo in Alabama must have the smartest zookeepers in the land, because they identified a trend and quickly capitalized on it to use it to their advantage. That trend? Pokémon Go. If you haven’t heard, Pokémon Go has broken the record for the most Apple iOS downloads in its first week. In two and a half weeks, it has already generated $35 million in net revenue, and one analyst has already predicted that it could bring $3 billion in revenue to Apple over the next year or two from their cut of the in-app purchases! (More on that story at CNN Money) Getting back to the zookeepers in Alabama, they noticed that a large number of zoo visitors were more concerned with catching Pokémon than with viewing the animals. Here’s what they did about it.
They created elaborate, themed posters and hung them at each animal station.
The zookeeper who had the idea then posted photos of these posters to social media.
The photos immediately went viral.
The Birmingham Zoo (Pokémon Go Zoo, anyone?) is now attracting visitors from far and wide who are coming to see the signs (and the animals).
This just goes to show that a little Pokémon Go ingenuity can go a long way! Would you go to this Pokémon Go Zoo?
