Many little girls aspire to be ballerinas and start dancing at a very young age. Gabi Shull of Missouri was one of them. When Gabbi turned nine years old, however, she was diagnosed with a type of bone cancer, and she had to have one of her legs amputated just above the knee.
It appeared Gabbi would never again be able to dance. However, thanks to a new type of surgery called rotationplasty, she can now dance again. The rotationplasty involved surgeons reattaching her foot, backwards, to what was left of her leg, so it can act as her knee. This allows her to bend her prosthetic leg in natural ways, much like a leg, so that she can dance on it. Check out her video at the bottom for a more descriptive explanation.
Gabi Shull, a ballerina, was diagnosed of bone cancer known as osteosarcoma which caused her leg to be amputated from the knee down.
She thought she’d never dance again.
She then underwent a new form of surgery called rotationplasty.
Surgeons were able to reattach her foot to what remained of her leg at a 180 degree angle, allowing her foot to act as a knee.
A prosthetic was added, and she was able to dance again.
She’s not only a dancer, but she’s also the spokesperson for an organization called The Truth 365.
Check out her story in full detail in the 2 videos below.
