There are thousands of nightclubs all over the world, all promising fun and excitement, but do they really live up to the hype? You’ve had a long week at work, and you head out with friends on a Friday night for fun at a nightclub. But what happens when you get there?
There’s a long line just to get in, and when you finally do, it’s too loud and the drinks are severely overpriced. The night can quickly turn into a disappointment. In fact, there are often several differences between expectations and reality when it comes to clubbing. Here are some of them:
1. Drinking with friends
Expectation
Having a drink while chatting with your friends as you take in the scene in front of you. Enjoying the music and checking out the guys on the side.
Reality
You lose track of the drinks you’ve consumed and end up too drunk to make it to the bed…or to even make it home.
2. Meeting new people
Expectation
You may be hoping to find someone interesting who can sweep you off your feet. After all, there should be a lot of available people there right?
Reality
Meeting someone who’s too drunk, too boring, or perhaps even married. And even if you meet someone interesting, who can hear in a club where the music is too loud? Forget having a conversation.
3. Dancing
Expectation
You’re expecting to go dancing, and who knows, maybe dance with someone new who you hit it off with.
Reality
There’s not even enough room to slow dance, and now you’ve got other people’s sweat – and their drinks – on you.
4. Music
Expectation
Entertainment in the form of trendy music from a popular DJ or performer.
Reality
Chances are it’ll be the same DJ from when you went to the club across the street 2 weeks ago. He’ll be spinning the hits, but most of them will be 6 or 7 years old.
5. Getting to the nightclub
Expectation
You pre-gamed, and you’re ready to go have fun.
Reality
You arrive, and this is scene. So much for the pre-game, that’ll go to waste when you have to wait in line for an hour just to get in.

If you don’t want to be disappointed, it’s best to have realistic expectations. After all, when you go to the club, how often does it actually live up to your expectations?
